Five Minutes With Richard Spratt, CEO, Eckler’s Industries Inc.

Every so often, our editorial staff selects one aftermarket industry professional to get to know a little better. Participants are asked to respond to a series of questions that can be answered in about the same amount of time you might spend chatting at the office coffee pot or waiting for an elevator. In today’s installment of “Five Minutes With,” we get to know Richard Spratt, who was named CEO of Eckler’s Industries in March. Eckler’s is a multi-channel, direct-to-consumer marketer of restoration parts and accessories for classic and enthusiast vehicles.

What was your first job in the industry?

For the past several years, I led the aftermarket repair and replacement parts business within Sears Holdings Corp. (appliance parts and lawn & garden parts primarily). Although that role was very similar to my current position as CEO of Eckler’s, this is my first in the automotive aftermarket.

What do you like best about your current position?

I love what this team is building together, and I’m incredibly excited to be a part of it… We have a great opportunity to create a differentiated service experience for our customers, and we have the team and resources needed to deliver on that vision.

Did you intend to have a career in the aftermarket?  If not, what drew you here and what keeps you here?

I was drawn to this opportunity by both the market itself and by the Eckler’s team in particular.  Much of my experience is directly applicable to the growth opportunities we intend to pursue. I knew I wanted to join another team that was as passionate about winning and growing as I am, a team and an organization that I could both learn from and contribute to immediately. I’m thrilled to be working in the aftermarket space with this group of truly impressive, seasoned pros.

What do you do when you’re not at work?

I have three young boys at home who keep me VERY busy with baseball, soccer and countless activities. I also have an amazing wife and great friends who I love to spend time with. Never bored!

What one word sums up your personality?

Passionate.

What kind of car do you drive?

My favorite is my JEEP Wrangler that I’ve owned for 20 years. I spent the first 10 years beating it up, and the last 10 building it back.

Favorite mantra?

I have several, but one favorite would be that people want to be an important part of something important, something bigger than themselves.
