Former ZF Lenksysteme GmbH Gets New Name

Following its integration into the Bosch Group as its own division, the former ZF Lenksysteme is now officially doing business as Robert Bosch Automotive Steering GmbH.

Bosch-ZFSTUTTGART/SCHWABISH GMUND, Germany – The company previously known as ZF Lenksysteme GmbH now officially does business as Robert Bosch Automotive Steering GmbH.

The company was officially entered into the commercial register under this new name effective March 11. Bosch completed the acquisition of the 50-percent share in the former joint venture ZF Lenksysteme GmbH held by ZF Friedrichshafen AG on Jan. 30, 2015. The business will expand Bosch’s systems competence in the Mobility Solutions business sector.

The domestic and foreign subsidiaries of Robert Bosch Automotive Steering GmbH also will change their names in the weeks ahead. The company will be managed within the Bosch Group as an independent division named Automotive Steering.

“We are adding an important new area of expertise to our portfolio in the form of steering technology,” said Dr. Dirk Hoheisel, member of the board of management of Robert Bosch GmbH, on the importance of the new division. As a leading manufacturer of modern, fuel-saving electric steering systems, Robert Bosch Automotive Steering GmbH expands the Bosch Group’s systems competence in the Mobility Solutions business sector.

According to Bosch, electric steering systems offer potential savings of up to 0.8 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers (0.2 gallons/62 miles) and are a basic technology for driver assistance systems, automated driving and electric vehicles. In doing so, they make an important contribution to improving driving safety, comfort and energy efficiency. Bosch customers benefit from the expanded product range that now includes steering systems.

“The key to success in the past was the components business. Today, those manufacturers who offer customers intelligent systems as integrated solutions in addition to that are the ones enjoying success,” said Christian Sobottka, president of Robert Bosch Automotive Steering GmbH.

Mobility Solutions is the largest Bosch Group business sector and largely operates in the following areas: injection technology for internal-combustion engines, alternative powertrain concepts, efficient and networked powertrain peripherals, systems for active and passive driving safety, assistance and comfort functions, technology for user-friendly infotainment as well as car-to-car and Car2X communication and concepts, technology and service for the automotive aftermarket. Bosch innovations in these areas have included electronic engine management, the ESP anti-skid system and common-rail diesel technology.
