Michael Cash To Head Axalta Industrial Coatings Businesses

New global role will support liquid and powder customers, including manufacturers of heavy-duty trucks, body builders, rail cars and other non-automotive vehicles.

WILMINGTON, Del. – Michael Cash has joined Axalta Coating Systems as senior vice president and president, Industrial Coatings. In this newly created position, Cash will be responsible for developing and executing global business strategy for customer segments in which Axalta already holds strong positions with well-established brands.

“Michael’s wide range of experience with both powder and liquid applications will enable Axalta to take our customer service to the next level,” said Charles Shaver, Axalta chairman and CEO. “Looking ahead, Michael will be able to expand our industrial offerings, bringing established and diverse brands such as Imron, Alesta and Voltatex to new markets while understanding emerging customer needs for innovative solutions.”

Cash will oversee three core business segments, some of which use both Axalta liquid and powder coatings. Transportation customers include manufacturers of heavy-duty trucks, body builders, rail cars and other non-automotive vehicles. General industrial customers include, among others, manufacturers of electrical equipment, oil and gas pipelines and agricultural equipment. Architectural and decorative customers include producers of windows, doors and cladding as well as furniture and appliances.

Prior to joining Axalta, Cash was managing director, powder coatings – Asia Pacific region at AkzoNobel Coatings and Chemicals, where he was responsible for the company’s powder coatings business in 11 countries and oversaw 12 manufacturing facilities. Previously, he was in charge of AkzoNobel’s powder business throughout the Americas. Cash also held a number of positions at The Sherwin-Williams Co., including vice president, automotive international; vice president, automotive marketing; and vice president and CFO for its joint venture with Herberts GmbH, which was then a Hoechst company. Earlier in his career, Cash was vice president and CFO of Carstar Automotive, a U.S. autobody repair franchise.

“Michael brings great breadth of experience in both powder and liquid applications to Axalta. Along with the perspective he offers across so many different customer segments and geographies, Mike will empower Axalta to stay ahead of the market,” added Shaver. “Having Michael with us, alongside Steve Markevich who recently joined Axalta as president of our automotive OEM coating business, will provide a terrific complement to our regional management teams that are already in place.”

Cash received his B.A. in business administration from Miami University (Ohio) in 1984.
