Major changes in leadership at two of the aftermarket’s most well-known companies take the lead in our recap of the week’s top news.

On Monday, the board of directors of Federal-Mogul Corp. announced that it elected Michael Broderick to the position of chief executive officer (CEO), Global Aftermarket Division. Broderick fills the role established in March when the Federal-Mogul board announced its decision to modify the company’s corporate structure to create a separate and independent aftermarket division.

Broderick joins Federal-Mogul on June 25 from CARQUEST, where he served as president of CARQUEST U.S. Following Broderick’s move to Federal-Mogul, CARQUEST announced that President and CEO O. Temple Sloan III would assume responsibility for the CARQUEST U.S. business on an interim basis, and David McCartney, executive vice president and chief information officer (CIO) for GPI Technologies, will lead Information Technology and Supply Chain operations. In addition, Ken Bush has been promoted to senior vice president merchandising and marketing, and Braxton O’Neal has been promoted to senior vice president, global product supply, both reporting directly to Sloan.

Management reorganization also recently took place in the heavy-duty sector as well. Navistar this week announced it was making management and operational structure changes to align its organization in a more effective manner to drive financial results. Troy Clarke, currently president of Navistar Asia Pacific, will assume responsibility for all Navistar’s operations in the newly created role of president, truck and engine. Jack Allen will become president of North America truck and parts and Engine Group President Eric Tech will expand his role to become president of global truck and engine. The changes will take effect July 1, following board approval.

In other top news this week, National Pronto Association added a new member to its ranks. Alabama-based Auto Electric & Carburetor Co. joined Pronto on June 1. Under the trade name Southern Distributors in Mobile, Ala., the company wholesales automotive parts to vehicle dealerships, independent automotive repair centers, national parts and repair chains as well as fleet and governmental entities. This is the second member to join Pronto this month. Supreme Automotive Warehouse in Salt Lake City, Utah, also joined the group in June.

Last in our recap of the week’s top news, we hear from Derek Data, director of strategic planning for Modern Silicone Technologies (MSi), parent company of Magnum gaskets, which recently announced its expansion into the aftermarket. In this Executive Interview, Data talks about the company’s new aftermarket gasket line, as well as the company’s commitment to producing products in the U.S.
