Derek Chinn, Ontario regional manager for Mevotech LP, is the incoming chairman of the Young Executive Society of Canada (YES). YES is a network of future industry leaders who are committed to developing the necessary skills of young professionals who share the same desire to shape the automotive aftermarket.
As chairman of YES, Derek will be responsible for organizational and stakeholder engagement, as well ensuring that the YES mission and mandate are promoted in line with AIA standards. With more than 25 years of experience in the automotive industry, Chinn says he hopes to share his knowledge and insight with the executive committee and motivate young executive members.
“I discovered my passion for cars at the age of 14 when I started building my first hot rod, and at 17 I was an apprentice mechanic. This industry has helped shape who I am, and it’s only natural that I want to give back to it. There are far more opportunities for young people now than when I was in my 20s. My goal is to raise awareness about them and encourage young professionals to follow their passion,” said Chinn.
Chinn firmly believes that careers in the technical field should be made more accessible to all, regardless of physical ability or gender, and hopes to achieve that during his tenure as Chairman of YES.
