ZF Aftermarket Earns Partslife Environmental Award

ZF’s use of “Powder Adhesive Technology” for its TRW-branded brake pads means they are now manufactured without organic solvents, which has led to ZF earning the Partslife Environmental Award.

ZF has developed a new technology which uses a dry powder coating adhesive for brakes, creating a cleaner working environment for employees by reducing and eliminating solvents – all the while not affecting the quality of the product. Brake pads for passenger cars and commercial vehicles are no longer bonded to the carrier plate with the previous solvent-based adhesive, but are now bonded with a dry adhesive powder. More than 150 tons of solvents can be saved each year from this innovation, said the company.

Saving the environment at top performance

The connection of the friction material with the rear wall is extremely important when braking as the lining must never come loose from its carrier plate. ZF’s ‘Powder Adhesive Technology’ ensures this and guarantees high quality and top performance of its TRW brake pads.

“Our agenda for the future of the aftermarket is characterized by our claim to harmonize environment and technology,” promises Helmut Ernst, head of the Aftermarket Division. “We accompany our customers on the path to sustainable mobility with expertise, innovation, and inventiveness.”

The Partslife Environmental Award

ZF Aftermarket has been awarded the Partslife Environmental Award in recognition for its Powder Adhesive Technology. The goal of the award is to promote innovative and exemplary measures for environmental protection, as well as encourage employees of other companies to follow in its footsteps.
