DETROIT The Motor & Equipment Remanufacturers Association (MERA), the U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) and other leading organizations invite industry leaders and guests to attend a webinar at 2 p.m. EST on Jan. 17. This program is intended for senior executives from across remanufacturing industries, as well as policymakers and financial industry executives.
The webinar will cover key findings and observations from the recently released USITC report: “Remanufactured Goods: An Overview of the U.S. and Global Industries, Markets and Trade.” The report completed for the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) provides an overview of U.S. remanufactured goods industries and markets, including U.S. remanufacturing production and employment, estimates of U.S. and global trade in remanufactured goods and factors affecting trends in the trade of remanufactured goods.
Learn about the results firsthand from two of the report’s key contributors:
* Alan Treat, international trade analyst, U.S. International Trade Commission
* Tani Fukui, economist, Office of Economics, U.S. International Trade Commission
Treat served as the project leader of the 18-month effort that led to the publication of the report. The session will be moderated by MERA President and COO John Chalifoux.
Key Points from the Report’s Executive Summary:
* The United States is the world’s largest producer, consumer and exporter of remanufactured goods.
* Remanufacturing is an industrial process that restores end-of-life goods to original working (“like new”) condition.
* Remanufacturing occurs across a diverse range of industry sectors in the United States, but is more common in sectors making capital-intensive, durable products that have relatively longer product life cycles.
* The top three industry sectors that account for remanufacturing activity in the United States are (ranked by production value) aerospace, heavy-duty and off-road (HDOR) equipment, and motor vehicle parts.
