Timken Expands Portfolio Of Bearings, Hub Units For Medium-Duty Vehicles

Research indicates growing demand for premium bearings used on commercial vans, delivery trucks and other fleet vehicles, according to Timken.

CANTON, Ohio – The Timken Co. has expanded its product portfolio of tapered roller bearing sets, hub units and seals for medium-duty vehicles, including commercial vans, delivery trucks, bucket trucks and other fleet vehicles.

“We and our distributors see strong opportunities targeting the medium-duty vehicle market sector,” said Thomas Tecklenburg, director of commercial vehicle original equipment and automotive aftermarket for Timken. “Today, nearly 40 percent of commercial vehicles are considered medium-duty and that number is growing as businesses increasingly opt for smaller vehicles to save fuel costs, particularly for in-city deliveries.”

Customers can see the expanding line of Timken bearings and hub units for medium-duty vehicles online at www.TimkenInfo.com. The database lists available Timken bearings and hub units for specific vehicle models and years.

The medium-duty market is familiar to Timken. For decades, the company has manufactured bearings and related components for equipment manufacturers and aftermarket distributors.

Recent research indicates the medium-duty vehicle market sector is growing at a faster pace than the global gross domestic product. Moreover, on average, medium-duty vehicles stay on the road longer: the average U.S. medium-duty truck is more than 11 years old. The cost of labor and lost productivity due to failure of an economy bearing can easily exceed the price of premium bearings and hub units.
