RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. Three students have been selected as recipients of scholarships from the Larry W. McCurdy Memorial Scholarship Fund, established by Affinia Group Inc. within the University of the Aftermarket Foundation to honor McCurdy, chairman of the board of Affinia Group Inc., who passed away in August 2010.
The Larry W. McCurdy Memorial Scholarship Fund awards three $2,500 scholarships per year to students in four-year programs preparing for aftermarket careers in engineering, business, accounting or other professional positions. The recipients for the 2012-2013 academic year are:
* Ryan Baxter, Rexburg, Idaho a sophomore at Brigham Young University pursuing a bachelor’s degree in automotive technology – business emphasis
* Andrew Durbin, Prattville, Ala. a freshman entering the Auburn University Auburn to obtain a business degree in marketing and advertising
* Michael Meng, Pretty Prairie, Kan. a freshman entering Kansas State University seeking a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
In addition, Stant Corp. has awarded five $1,000 scholarships through the Global Automotive Aftermarket Symposium (GAAS) Scholarship Program.
The Stant award winners, listed below, are students planning careers as automotive technicians:
* Mark Campbell, Leesburg, Va.
* Jacob Conlon, Ludlow, Mass.
* Alexander Leonard, Rockville, Ind.
* Anthony Looman, Frankfort, Mich.
* Damon Soltero, Columbia, S.C.
