Overall, about 92 percent of shops purchase aftermarket crash parts, according to the 2009 BodyShop Business Industry Profile. That’s down slightly from 97 percent in 2007.
When asked why they purchase aftermarket crash parts, the majority (79 percent) of shops said they do so because they feel pressure from the insurance company. The second leading reason (56 percent) was to prevent the car from being totaled.
