As the chart below illustrates, new car dealer share has experienced a shift in market share during the first half of 2010 compared to the numbers for 2009. In nearly all age categories, new car dealer market share has increased so far this year.
“What’s notable is that that in the first half of 2010 new car dealer share of parts and services has risen in almost all age categories,” said Bill Thompson, president of IMR. “While dealerships have gained share away from other channels, the independent repair channel hasn’t born the brunt of the shift, but rather other specialty service outlets for oil, tires and other routine maintenance services."
