Roughly three-quarters (71 percent) of automotive students surveyed by Tomorrow’s Technician magazine say it is a goal to run their own repair shop one day. In the meantime, many of them keep their skills fresh with DIY work and repair and maintenance work for family and friends.
Eighty-seven percent of these student techs say they are sought out for advice on vehicle maintenance, where to source parts (63 percent), brands of parts (53 percent) and sources for service (54 percent), among other things.
Methodology:
The Tomorrow’s Technician Student Survey was sent to students with the May issue of Tomorrow’s Technician magazine. The questionnaire was included in the shipment of the magazine sent to 150 randomly chosen schools. Results of the survey are gleaned from responses from 230 students at approximately 34 schools.
Stay tuned for more insights into the trends and preferences of these future techs in upcoming editions of "The Pulse."
