According to data from IMR Research, just 3.7 percent of all filter purchases by DIY consumers are made online. This includes purchases from Internet-only retail sites and those made from Internet sites of brick and mortar companies. In this instance, the data is the aggregate of all oil filters, air filters, fuel filters and cabin air filters.
As you can see from the chart below, the majority of filter purchases made online are for European makes, 8.4 percent, with domestic, Asian and Korean vehicles each getting a nearly equal share, at just under 4 percent each.
According to IMR, single males take the lead when it comes to DIY online filter purchases with 4 percent, compared to 3.2 percent for single females, while families account for 3.7 percent.
