SPX Service Solutions Announces Launch of Electric Vehicle Solutions Team

Team will provide turn-key deployment support for electric vehicle supply equipment to vehicle manufacturers.

WARREN, Mich. — SPX Service Solutions, a business unit of SPX Corp., has announced the formation of a dedicated team to provide turn-key deployment support for Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) and other Electric Vehicle (EV) support solutions in partnership with the SPX global customer base as they launch EV’s into the market place.

EVSE is required to safely provide a rapid charge to plug-in electric vehicles. EVSE will be required by vehicle owners, fleet operators, service facilities, municipalities and virtually any entity wishing to provide EV charging capabilities. SPX will bring to bear its wide-ranging capabilities in product development, manufacturing, distribution, installation, training and customer service to provide optimal EVSE solutions for vehicle manufacturers and their customers.

In addition to other industry events, the SPX EV Solutions Team will participate in the 2010 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan during Press and Industry Preview Days (Jan. 11 – 15) and at the National Auto Dealers Association (NADA) Convention and Expo in Orlando, Florida (Feb. 13 – 15).

"With more than 90 years of providing engineered solutions to the transportation industry, SPX Service Solutions has the expertise to effectively develop and implement high performance solutions that can meet the needs of early adopters of the new electric vehicle technology as well as those that are sure to follow," said Charlie Yankitis, director of the EV Solutions program at SPX Service Solutions. "As the electric vehicle platforms continue to evolve, we are uniquely positioned through our SPX field services organization and network of certified electricians and installers to help ensure the acceptance of plug-in electric vehicles by global consumers," he added.

According to forecasters at J.D. Power & Associates, there could be as many as 30 all-electric or plug-in electric vehicle models on the U.S. market by 2012 or 2013. SPX has structured its EVSE initiative to provide a turn-key solution (EVSE manufacturing, installation and program management) to vehicle manufacturers. In addition, SPX will draw on its breadth of global infrastructure to work with manufacturers to develop additional EV solutions as dictated by the needs of regional or local markets.

"This unique ability to draw on the broadest base of experienced resources in the market, positions SPX to deliver effective solutions to meet every need in the electric vehicle supply equipment market," Yankitis adds.

SPX Service Solutions, headquartered in Warren, Mich., and with offices around the world, designs, manufactures and markets a fully integrated family of global brands providing special service tools, advanced diagnostic and shop equipment and technical information for vehicle servicing and maintenance.
