Visteon’s Johnston to Retire Nov. 30; Stebbins Elected Chairman

VAN BUREN TOWNSHIP, Mich. — The board of directors of Visteon Corp. has elected President and CEO Donald Stebbins to the additional position of chairman of the board, effective Dec. 1. Stebbins succeeds Michael Johnston, who will retire as executive chairman Nov. 30, after eight years in senior leadership positions with the global automotive supplier.

The board of directors of Visteon Corp. has elected Donald Stebbins as president and chief executive officer, effective June 1. Stebbins, who currently serves as president and chief operating officer, will succeed Michael Johnston in the CEO role. Johnston will continue as executive chairman. Stebbins, 50, has been president and COO since joining Visteon in 2005, following 13 years in senior leadership positions with Lear Corp. Expanding Stebbins’ leadership role is a timely and logical step in Visteon’s long-term executive succession planning process, according to Johnston.

Motor vehicle parts suppliers will demonstrate the latest technologies to improve vehicle safety and fuel efficiency at the Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association’s (MEMA) second annual Ride and Drive, slated for Thursday and Friday, Oct. 4-5, at RFK Stadium, Parking Lots 6 and 7, in Washington, D.C. Members of Congress, federal agency officials, congressional staff and the media will have the opportunity to test drive vehicles and see displays relating to vehicle safety and fuel efficiency, according to Bob McKenna, MEMA president and CEO.

The Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA) recently announced that it will hold a two-day demonstration of automotive technology that enables vehicles to be safer, cleaner and more fuel efficient. The second annual Ride and Drive is set for Thursday and Friday, Oct. 4-5, at RFK Stadium, Parking Lots 6 and 7, in Washington, D.C. Companies slated to participate include Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC, BorgWarner Inc., Delphi Corp., Gates Corp., Gentex Corp., GE Plastics, Magna International of America Inc., Meritor WABCO Vehicle Control Systems, Robert Bosch LLC, Valeo Inc. and Webasto Product North America Inc.

American Standard Board Approves Spin-off of Vehicle Control Systems Business

The board of directors of American Standard Companies Inc. has approved the tax-free spin-off of its Vehicle Control Systems business into a new publicly traded company to be called WABCO. WABCO is a producer of electronic braking, stability, suspension and transmission control systems for commercial vehicles and was originally part of the Westinghouse Air Brake Co. founded in 1869.

American Standard to Split into Three Companies

American Standard Companies Inc., which makes air conditioning systems, plumbing products and automotive braking systems, said Thursday it will split the company into three businesses this year, and focus its efforts on the air conditioning segment. American Standard said it will focus on its air conditioning systems business, which brought in $6.8 billion in sales in 2006. It will rename the company Trane, while retaining the right to use the American Standard brand name for heating, ventilation and air conditioning products.

ArvinMeritor to Develop First Dual-Mode Heavy-Duty Diesel-Electric Drivetrain for Wal-Mart Transportation

ArvinMeritor, Inc. and Wal-Mart Transportation in Bentonville, AR, are partnering in the development of a dual-mode, diesel-electric drivetrain for a Class 8 tractor. The vehicle, which is believed to be the first dual-mode diesel-electric tractor prototype in development in North America, will be based on an International Class 8 ProStar tractor and powered by an engine developed by Cummins Inc.
