ASA to Host Seminar on Right to Repair Issue

The Automotive Service Association (ASA) has created a three-hour seminar, “You Have the Right to Repair,” which will be offered at several ASA affiliated events this year, including Congress of Automotive Repair and Service (CARS) in Las Vegas on Nov. 6. Taught by Bill Haas, AAM, ASA’s vice president of service repair markets, the course has been approved by the Automotive Management Institute (AMI). Attendees will receive six credits toward the Accredited Automotive Manager (AAM) designation.

NASTF Reports on March 8 Meeting in Detroit

The National Automotive Service Task Force (NASTF) held its regular winter meeting on March 8 in conjunction with the SAE World Congress in Detroit. The task force meets twice yearly to maintain a forum for discussion and resolution of service-related issues. Approximately 55 people attended the meeting.

Bill Overmyer, national accounts sales manager for ArvinMeritor’s Light Vehicle Aftermarket (LVA) group, has earned Advance Auto Parts’ Advance Factory Direct Representative Award. The award recognizes the achievements of a veteran sales professional who best supports Advance Auto Parts’ marketing, training, customer service and merchandising initiatives. Overmyer was presented with the award at the auto parts chain’s recent annual Leadership Conference.

Lear Considers Closing Auburn Hills Seat Plant

Auto supplier Lear Corp. says it might in May close a seat-making plant in Auburn Hills, Mich., that employs about 325. Lear sent a letter this month warning the State of Michigan that the plant will close, but a spokesperson said its fate depends on UAW talks.

TIA Hires New Marketing Director

The Tire Industry Association (TIA) announced that its staff is now complete, with the hiring of a new marketing director, Colleen Wood. Wood comes to TIA with 14 years of marketing and association experience. With the closing of TIA’s Louisville office in January, many staff changes have occurred.

iATN Heads to Southern Cal for 2004 Convention

The International Automotive Technicians’ Network (iATN) will hold its 2004 convention Sept. 24-26, at the Coast Anaheim Hotel, in Anaheim, Calif. Traditionally a casual event, the convention will offer several technical and business management sessions, in addition to networking opportunities. The convention will also feature “TechNight Live: iATN West Coast Diagnostic Challenge.” There will also be a special luncheon address, as well as a dinner and reception for attendees.
