Ex-Detroit Exec Named to Alcoa Post

A former Detroit executive has been named vice president and general manager of Alcoa’s Warrick Operations – the highest position at the facility, the company said Thursday. Michael Lucas, who began his duties Monday, came to Alcoa from Piston Automotive, a diversified company that provides manufacturing, assembly and logistics services to the automobile industry. He served as chief operations officer for Piston.

SmarTire Signs Distribution Agreement with Lexani Wheel Corp.

SmarTire Systems has signed a distribution agreement with Lexani Wheel Corp, a manufacturer of luxury alloy wheels based in California. Lexani will bundle SmarTire’s tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) with its Johnson line of custom wheels, which are sold through its dealer base.

White House Ready to Name Manufacturing Czar

The Bush administration is likely to name Anthony Raimondo, chairman and CEO of Behlen Manufacturing Co. in Columbus, Neb., as its manufacturing czar as early as today, reports Reuters. One of his chief functions will be to help recover some 2.5 million manufacturing jobs lost since early 2001.

Replacement Parts To Acquire Louisiana Chain

Aftermarket Auto Parts Alliance/Bumper to Bumper member Replacement Parts,Inc., which operates 134 stores and four distribution centers, has entered into an asset purchase agreement with Dimmick Supply Inc. The agreement will transfer all of Dimmick’s 10 stores and its single DC to Replacement Parts as of March 29. Dimmick Supply is also a Bumper-to-Bumper member, and its stores will continue to operate as such. The Dimmick stores are located in or adjoining existing Replacement Parts territories in southwest Louisiana and will be served out of the Monroe DC.

PPG Announces Management Assignments

PPG Industries has announced two management assignments. Reg Norton, director of global manufacturing and supply chain for PPG’s automotive refinish business unit, has been appointed global director, environment, health and safety, effective April 1. He will replace David Cannon Jr., vice president, environment, health and safety, who is leaving the company on March 31. Lynne Schmidt, director of government affairs, will be promoted to vice president, government and community affairs, and executive director of the PPG Industries Foundation, effective July 1.
