The Automotive Aftermarket Suppliers Association is currently putting the final touches on its 2005 Top Aftermarket Suppliers list. If you have not yet submitted your company’s information, submissions will be accepted until Friday, March 18. The form to participate is available online at www.aftermarketnews.com/aasaform.asp. Price or Quality — Which is it?
Consumers say they want quality. The big question is: Are they willing to pay for it? Price or quality? Which is it? Which do you try to sell and which do your customers tend to buy? In a perfect world, everyone would buy premium product. The repair shop would be getting a part they could hang with confidence, with all the fit, form and function that comes with a quality product. The warehouse and parts store would be happy too because they’d be making a nice margin along the way.
Midas Reports Positive Full Year Earnings
Midas this week reported positive full-year net earnings for the first time since 2001. For the fiscal year ending Jan. 1, Midas earned $4.1 million, or 26 cents per diluted share, including the effects of $5.9 million in special charges. Net income for the fourth quarter was $2 million – or 12 cents per diluted share, after special charges of $1.2 million. Net income for both the fourth quarter and full year benefited from the reversal of a $1.8 million tax reserve that was no longer needed due to the favorable resolution of a 1999 foreign tax matter. Excluding the effects of both the special charges and the tax credit, net income was 36 cents per diluted share for the year and 6 cents per diluted share for the fourth quarter.

The “AASA Top Automotive Aftermarket Suppliers List” will be distributed with the May 2005 issue of Counterman magazine, which reaches more than 50,000 automotive aftermarket parts distribution professionals every month.
