Tenneco Automotive and Pep Boys Sign Long-Term Deal

Tenneco Automotive has announced a long-term agreement with Pep Boys to supply Monroe shock absorbers, struts and off-road Rancho products to all of Pep Boys’ stores nationwide and in Puerto Rico. Tenneco Automotive’s Monroe, Rancho and DNX shock absorbers and struts and DNX and Dynomax performance exhaust products will be available at all Pep Boys’ stores beginning in February 2004.

Keystone Automotive has named Lord Corporation’s Fusor Automotive Repair Adhesives a preferred supplier. Fusor Automotive is a provider of metal and composite bonding solutions for automotive body repair. Lord Corp. provides its full product-line of Fusor Automotive Repair Adhesives to Keystone Automotive Industries, specifically their adhesives for metal bonding, plastic repair and bumper repair; as well as their seam sealers and foams. According to the Keystone supplier performance summary, Lord earned 100 points on a rating scale with a total possible 100 points. Program criteria included quality, order fill rate and order lead-time.

Suppliers to Benchmark the Cost of Auto Industry Absenteeism

A dozen U.S. auto suppliers hope next month to finish a two-year effort to determine the cost of lost productivity due to absenteeism and “presenteeism” -people who are on the job but not functioning at appropriate productive levels. The group, dubbed the Automotive Supplier Action Committee, says it focused upon the industry’s hourly workforce, where absenteeism is roughly 10 percent, or about three times that of other industries.

Kayaba to Expand Global Manufacturing Operations

Next month, Kayaba Industry Co., Ltd. (KYB) will acquire a 75 percent shareholding in AP Amortiguadores SA (APA) currently held by ArvinMeritor. In the U.S., Kayaba is set to expand its manufacturing base at Franklin, Ind, to support growing sales of KYB shocks and struts to the North American aftermarket.

Johnson Controls Delays Move

Plymouth Township, Mich., will retain its largest taxpayer for the time being. Johnson Controls officials recently announced they will not to move to Salem Township this year, but still expect to relocate their headquarters and technology facilities from Plymouth Township to a larger site when a suitable location is found.

Car Care Council Reports Increased Web Site Usage, Women’s Board Membership Up

In 2003, usage of the Car Care Council’s Car Care Newspaper Supplement (CCNS) Web site grew dramatically, the council said. The growth coincides with the first year of the Car Care Council’s “Be Car Care Aware” consumer-education campaign. In addition to the news of increased usage of Car Care Council materials, the Car Care Council Women’s Board’s announced that its membership more than doubled in 2003, setting a record high number.
