DST Asks: Do You Sell from Inventory Locations that are Not Your Own or Are You Making Plans To?

The old maxim “You can’t sell from an empty shelf” has become outdated. Why? Because technology can ensure that shelves are never bare, at least from the customer’s standpoint, with the advent of the Virtual Inventory Network (VIN) — a term coined by DST to encompass B2B, B2C, and Peer-to-Peer e-commerce. But the Akron tire maker denies it has broken the contract, and said it has no plans to move production of its new Assurance all-season radial tires to a union factory. The disagreement comes just five months after the two sides signed a new three-year contract, following months of tense bargaining that threatened to escalate several times into a strike or lockout.

Lear Probe Looks for Nepotism

Auto-interiors supplier Lear Corp. said Tuesday the Securities and Exchange Commission has opened an informal investigation into its employment of corporate officers’ relatives and insider business transactions. The Southfield, Mich., parts maker said the SEC might look at several years of SEC filings that outline familial connections within the company, which include more than a dozen workers and upper-level executives. The latest filing, the company’s 2003 proxy statement, reveals that CEO Robert Rossiter had at least seven relatives working for Lear or for a company associated with Lear in 2002.
