Dr. Shoichiro Toyoda to Receive SAE Foundation’s 2005 Manufacturing Leadership Award

Dr. Shoichiro Toyoda, honorary chairman of the Toyota Motor Corp., has been selected as the recipient of the 2005 Manufacturing Leadership Award issued by the SAE Foundation. Dr. Toyoda will travel from Japan to receive the award at the Annual SAE Foundation Banquet on Tuesday, May 24, at the Renaissance Center Wintergarden in Detroit.

IRL to Celebrate Kick-off of 10th Season with 13-City ‘Green Flag Tour’

In celebration of the start of its 10th season, the Indy Racing League (IRL) announced it will launch a 14-day, 13-city “Green Flag Tour.” The tour, which will carry the green flag that will be used to start the season-opening Toyota Indy 300, will begin Feb. 21 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and conclude at Homestead-Miami Speedway on March 6. Along the way, the flag will travel some 7,500 miles, visiting nine of the country’s biggest cities and 10 markets that will host IndyCar Series events.

2005 North American International Auto Show Economic Impact Reaches $580 Million

The 2005 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) is expected to have a $580 million impact on the Metro Detroit economy, according to David Sowerby, C.F.A., portfolio manager and chief market analyst at Loomis Sayles & Co. Parts Plus National Convention Registration Hits Record Number

Parts Plus is planning to hold its ninth annual convention in New Orleans in early 2005 and already attendee registration is exceeding past events, according to Mike Lambert, president of Parts Plus. Lambert explained that the group combined technology and direct mailings to encourage early registration for the event. Customers are also registering early to take advantage of earnback programs being promoted by Parts Plus distributors in their local markets.
