Retired GM Exec Appointed to MPA Board
Motorcar Parts of America has appointed Duane F. Miller to its board of directors, expanding the board to seven members. Duane Miller, 60, retired in April 2008 after a 37-year career with General Motors Corporation. He most recently served as executive director for General Motor’s Service and Parts Operation, responsible for all field activities, GM Parts (original equipment), AC Delco (aftermarket), GM Accessories business channels and the Global Independent Aftermarket business. His career with General Motors included numerous assignments and increasing responsibilities, commencing as a merchandising representative for the former AC Spark Plug division.

Linamar Corp. Strengthens Detroit Presence
Ontario-based Linamar Corp. is strengthening its presence in the Detroit-area. All Linamar employees in Detroit will now be housed in one expanded location – the Linamar Automotive Customer Center – which officially opened this week. The new location, which features 160 percent more space than Linamar’s previous offices, further positions the company for continued growth in the automotive industry, the company said.

Michelin Pulls Cars from Races; Shares Fall More than 3 Percent
Racing fans booed and threw debris, and shares of French tire maker Michelin & Cie fell more than 3 percent after Formula One cars using its tires pulled out of the U.S. Grand Prix at Indianapolis Motor Speedway due to safety concerns. Seven teams, accounting for 14 of the 20 cars in the world’s most popular racing series, withdrew, leaving only six drivers using Bridgestone tires in the race Sunday.

Mike Droullard to be Next APRA Chairman
Mike Droullard, vice president, sales – special markets for Brake Parts Inc., has been appointed to serve as the next chairman for the Automotive Parts Remanufacturers Association (APRA). He will be inducted as chairman during the 2004 International Big R Show, which takes place Oct. 29 – Nov. 1 in Las Vegas.
The “R” in APRA Now Stands For Remanufacturers
The APRA board of directors has voted unanimously to change its name to Automotive Parts Remanufacturers Association, changing its focus from the word rebuilders to remnanufacturers. This name change appears to be part of the association’s overall effort to create a more specific focus and vision for the group. Last month, APRA announced that it also renamed its Volume Transmission Division.
