Global Automotive Aftermarket Scholarship Fund Received Record Donations in 2004

The Global Automotive Aftermarket Scholarship program, funded through the Global Automotive Aftermarket Symposium (GAAS), received more than $20,000 in corporate and individual donations in 2004, helping the program award a record 145 scholarships of $1,000 to students planning aftermarket careers, and to sons and daughters of industry families.

Delphi Reduces Quarterly Loss; Parts Supplier Details Widening SEC Probe

Delphi Corp. narrowed its third-quarter loss to $114 million, and generated more cash than expected, but acknowledged a widening government probe into its accounting practices. The nation’s largest auto-parts maker warned Oct. 5 that it could lose as much as $120 million from July through September because steel and plastic prices rose dramatically, and its biggest customer, General Motors Corp., built fewer cars and trucks.

Auto-Tech 2004: Wagoner Says Automakers, Suppliers Must End Hostility

At a time when cost-cutting pressures have strained relations between automakers and suppliers, General Motors Corp. Chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner said Tuesday that the two sides must cooperate to rein in soaring health-care expenses. Wagoner also said public bickering and complaining between automakers and suppliers won’t help Detroit automakers take back some of the market share they have lost. Wagoner’s speech to a breakfast crowd during Auto-Tech, a conference of suppliers sponsored by the Automotive Industry Action Group, is the latest in an executive push for easing health-care costs — an issue that is among the top priorities for voters this election year.
