Specialty Products Alliance to Hold Annual Luncheon at AAPEX

The Automotive Specialty Products Alliance (ASPA) will be hosting its third annual luncheon at AAPEX on Tuesday, Nov. 2 at 12 p.m. in the Sands Expo Center in Las Vegas. The event, entitled, “A New View on Marketing Automotive Specialty Products,” will include a panel of representatives featuring: Scott Dodson of Pep Boys; Glenn Lambert of Strauss Discount Auto; and Bill Maggs of Pronto Auto Parts. The representatives will discuss various strategies to increase sales of automotive chemicals and promote growth within this automotive products category.

Be Car Care Aware Campaign Goes to Europe

AAIA executives have taken the “Be Car Care Aware” message abroad in the hopes that European aftermarket associations will take on the campaign. Kathleen Schmatz, AAIA president and CEO, and Al Gaspar, AAIA president emeritus, were in Lisbon, Portugal, earlier this month to educate representatives of Europe’s premier aftermarket associations about the “Be Car Care Aware” campaign, the Motor Vehicle Owners’ Right to Repair Act and AAIA’s technology industry standards.

MEMA Names New Executive Director of Association Management Division

Brent Hazelett has been promoted to executive director of Management Services Group (MSG), the association management division of MEMA. He has served as the executive director of the Filter Manufacturers Council (FMC) since May 1998, and will continue to serve in that capacity as well.

Kathleen Schmatz Takes Over as President and CEO of AAIA

Jan. 1 marked the first day of Kathleen Schmatz’ new role as president and CEO of the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association (AAIA), a trade association representing more than 2,700 companies that manufacture, distribute and sell motor vehicle parts, accessories, tools, equipment, materials, supplies and services. Schmatz, who has served as AAIA’s executive vice president since January 2002, takes over the role from Al Gaspar, who retired at the end of 2003 after 30 years in the aftermarket industry. Gaspar is president emeritus and will serve as a consultant to the association.
