Nissan Endorses Talks on Buying GM Stake
The board of Nissan Motor, the Japanese carmaker, voted Monday to explore a proposal to form an alliance with Renault and General Motors to create a new global auto giant. The vote came hours before the board of Renault, the French car company that owns a controlling 44 percent stake of Nissan, was scheduled to discuss the same proposal, put forward by a group of GM shareholders led by the American billionaire Kirk Kerkorian.
Universal Technical Institute, Inc. Announces New Training Contract With Nissan
Technical education provider Universal Technical Institute (UTI) has signed a training contract with Nissan North America, Inc. The nine-week elective training is scheduled to begin during the summer of fiscal 2006 and is planned to be offered at the existing UTI locations in Houston, TX; Orlando, FL; and Mooresville, NC. As part of the contracts Nissan plans to equip the elective with specialized training aids and tools. Students who successfully complete their training will be eligible to receive credit within the Nissan Technician Certification system.
Nissan Moving Headquarters to Nashville
Nissan Motor said Thursday that it would move its North American headquarters to a suburb of Nashville, TN, from California. Nissan’s chief executive, Carlos Ghosn, made the announcement in Nashville at the Tennessee State Capitol. The auto company, which is based in Japan, said it would spend $17 million on a new headquarters building in Williamson County south of Nashville.

Nissan to Make Small Cars for U.S. Youth Market
Japanese carmaker Nissan said today it plans to sell smaller cars specifically geared to the U.S. market as early as 2006. The cars will be marketed to younger drivers, the company said. Nissan expects to produce the new model in one of its three existing factories in North America.
