TOKYO — Japanese carmaker Nissan said today it plans to sell smaller cars specifically geared to the U.S. market as early as 2006.
The cars will be marketed to younger drivers, the company said.
Nissan expects to produce the new model in one of its three existing factories in North America.
The company said that by producing locally, it will be able to avert the risks involved with foreign exchange rate fluctuations between the U.S. dollar and Japanese yen.
