Siemens VDO Adds New Part Numbers to Electric Motor Line, Power Window Program and TPMS Replacement Parts

Siemens VDO Automotive has announced the addition of new part numbers to several of its product lines. The company is adding more than 130 part numbers to its full line of blower motors, radiator and condenser fan motors and cooling fan assemblies. Siemens VDO will now offer more than 900 SKUs with application coverage for more than 200 million North American vehicles. In addition, the company said it will add substantial coverage to its power window program with the addition of more than 135 new power window regulators and power window motor and regulator assemblies. Siemens VDO has also expanded its line of OE replacement parts for tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS).

OBITUARY: Robert Petersen, Founder of Hot Rod, Motor Trend Magazines and Benefactor of the Petersen Automotive Museum Passes On at 80

Robert Petersen, an entrepreneur who single-handedly created the largest special-interest publishing company in America, was instrumental in the evolution of the hot-rodding culture, and who, with his wife Margie, realized his dream of establishing an educational museum to pay tribute to the automobile, died on Friday, March 23, at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica, CA, after a short but valiant battle with neuroendocrine cancer. He was 80.

Odland’s Legacy Tied to POS

The automotive aftermarket continues to be an extremely complex challenge to high-flung retailing executives. Steve Odland’s recently announced departure from the top position at AutoZone is just the latest in a long line of high-level executive escapes from our unheralded industry. I wish Odland the best of luck at Office Depot, where (and, I don’t care how much White Out you use) the challenge to “profitably grow” would seem to be much easier. However, this is not so much a commentary on Odland leaving AutoZone, as it is on the ever-increasing complexity and challenges of our market.

Jack Rome, MotorVac VP and Inventor, Dies at 66

John “Jack” Rome, vice president of operations and engineering for MotorVac Technologies, lost his year long battle with cancer on November 4. Rome had served as vice president of operations and engineering at MotorVac since 1995. He was responsible for designing and developing most of the company’s products and was named on 18 of their 19 patent applications. He also managed the manufacturing, distribution and procurement operations.
