David O’Reilly Honored with MEMA’s Triangle Award

David O’Reilly, chairman of O’Reilly Automotive Inc., was presented the prestigious Triangle Award by the Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA) during the O’Reilly Auto Parts National Sales Conference on Feb. 11, in Dallas, TX. For more than 30 years, the MEMA Triangle Award has been presented periodically to that person, persons or organization whom the association’s members choose to honor for selfless contribution to the automotive industry.

New Rule – One-on-One Participants Must Exhibit at AAPEX

Another consideration for manufacturers who plan to participate in Automotive Warehouse Distributors Association’s (AWDA) 2008 one-on-ones: you must exhibit at AAPEX. For the past two years, AWDA has unknowingly violated an AAPEX rule by hosting meetings for non-exhibiting manufacturers.

James Eady Joins Pioneer as Vice President, General Manager

Pioneer Inc. has announced the appointment of James “Jim” Eady as vice president/general manager. He will have complete responsibility for day to day operations along with new market and product development. Pioneer is an international supplier of automotive aftermarket cables, engine parts, flywheels, mounts, ring gears, transmission parts, harmonic balancers, shop supplies and performance parts.

Last Week at AAPEX: Berkowitz Honored for Lifetime Achievement

During AWDA’s general session Sunday evening, Aaron Berkowitz was presented with the Martin Fromm Lifetime Achievement Award. This very selective award recognizes individuals who, over the course of many years, have distinguished themselves through their commitment to, and high level of performance within, the motor vehicle aftermarket. Recipients of this award are considered to be “backbones” of the industry.

Last Week at AAPEX: Fred Bunting Receives Art Fisher Award

AWDA presented the 2007 Art Fisher Memorial Scholarship Award to Fred A. Bunting in recognition of his passion for training and education. Bunting received this honor during AWDA’s general session, held last Sunday night in Las Vegas. The Art Fisher Memorial Scholarship Award is presented annually to an aftermarket company or individual that demonstrates outstanding commitment to education and training, either within their own companies or throughout the industry. Given in memory of former AWDA chairman Art Fisher, the award grants substantial scholarships in the name of the award winner to two students enrolled in the automotive aftermarket management program at Northwood University.

Last Week at AAPEX: Burkhart Awarded ‘Pursuit of Excellence’

At last Sunday night’s AWDA general session, Jon Owens from Babcox Publications presented the 2007 Pursuit of Excellence Award to Jay Burkhart, senior vice president, Global Aftermarket for Federal-Mogul Corp., based in Southfield, MI. Established in 1983, the award is presented annually to a member of AWDA in recognition of excellence in business performance and support for AWDA and its ideals.
