NASCAR Driver’s Online Auction Nets More Than $86,000

Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, Kasey Kahne and Kevin Harvick, partnering with GoMotorBids.com, raised $86,577 in a 16 day online auction. Sponsored by GoMotorBids.com and benefiting the drivers charities, the auction consisted of a mixture of authentic race-used items, uniforms that had been graciously donated by the driver or teams, plus rare and unique die cast collectibles, some of which had been donated by GoMotorBids.com.

NASCAR Driver’s Rev Up Online Engines

Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, Kasey Kahne and Kevin Harvick are heating up more than their race car engines this week. After only six days of an online auction to help raise money for the drivers’ charities and foundations, more than $32,000 has been raised and Gordon’s bids account for 47 percent of the total number for all four drivers.

Dana Corporation Contributes $50,000 to Aid Hurricane Katrina Relief Efforts

In response to the recent hurricane devastation in the Gulf Coast region, Dana Corporation has contributed $50,000 to the American Red Cross Hurricane 2005 Relief Fund to support its humanitarian relief and recovery efforts. Additionally, Dana will make a second contribution to the American Red Cross by matching employee and retiree donations made through Nov. 30, 2005 to registered charitable organizations that support the hurricane relief efforts.

The Timken Company Elects Ward J. ‘Tim’ Timken, Jr. as Chairman

The Timken Company announced its board of directors has named Ward J. “Tim” Timken, Jr. chairman, effective August 15. The appointment follows the July 29 United States Senate confirmation of W.R. Timken, Jr. as U.S. Ambassador to Germany and his subsequent resignation as chairman and member of the Timken board, effective August 14.

Collins & Aikman Chairman and CEO Resigns, Charles Becker Named Acting CEO

Collins & Aikman Corp. has announced the resignation of Chairman and CEO David Stockman. Charles Becker, a former director of the company, has agreed to serve as acting CEO, while the company searches for a permanent replacement for Stockman. In addition, the company’s board of directors has asked three directors, Anthony Hardwick, Timothy Leuliette and Daniel Tredwell, to support Becker as a temporary steering committee of the board while it spearheads a search for a full time replacement to serve as CEO of the company. Marshall Cohen, a current director of the company, was named as non-executive interim chairman of the board of directors.

Tire Rack Patriarchs Announce Retirement Plans

Tire and wheel wholesaler and mail-order/Internet retailer The Tire Rack will be going through a transition. Company founders and patriarchs, Peter and Wilma Veldman, have announced their intention to retire from day-to-day operations of the Tire Rack to focus more attention on their charitable interests, according to the South Bend, Ind., company.

Former AIA of Canada President Jack Davies Dies

Jack Davies, former president of the Automotive Industries Association of Canada, died Saturday, April 2, after a five year battle with cancer. He was 78. Davies was founder of Davies Auto Electric, Ltd., located in Mississauga, Ontario.

Canadian Aftermarket Marketing Exec Lube Koval Dies

Canadian aftermarket marketing veteran Lube Koval died unexpectedly on Feb. 1, according to published reports. He was 52 years old. The cause of death was not disclosed. Koval was credited with helping to build the Matthew.Scott advertising agency into a full research, sales and marketing enterprise. During his career, Koval worked on a number of aftermarket initiatives and was on the board of directors for Shad’s R&R, a charitable organization that raises funds for muscular dystrophy research.
