ASA Urges Support of Funding for Perkins Act

President George W. Bush’s 2007 budget proposal aims to eliminate funding to the Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act of 1998, which provides funding for vocational education which, in turn, provides jobs and education for thousands of students. The Automotive Service Association (ASA) is in support of full funding for the Perkins Act and urges repairers to offer their support as well.

The Automotive Management Institute (AMI) has announced its 2006-2007 Board of Trustees. John Francis Jr., AAM, of Francis Automotive Service, West Chester, PA, has been re-elected chairman; George Witt, AAM, of George Witt Service, Inc., Lincoln, NE, was re-elected vice-chair; Bob Pearson, AAM, of Pearson Auto Body, Shakopee, MN, was re-elected treasurer and Bill Sauer, founder of Identifix in Roseville, MN, was re-elected secretary.

CCC Information Services Marks 25th Anniversary with $25,000 in Scholarships

CCC Information Services Inc. is offering five schools $25,000 in collision repair training and education scholarships to assist deserving students pursuing a career in the automotive-collision repair industry. The CCC Outstanding Student Technician Scholarship, developed in cooperation with the I-CAR Education Foundation, is now accepting applications for the 2006 program.

ASA and NADA Push for National Restrictions on Sale of Auto Paint

The Automotive Service Association (ASA) and the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) are joining together to push for a national rule to enforce point of sale restrictions on refinish paint products. The joint action comes in the form of a letter to Environmental Protection Specialist Kim Teal, who is responsible for the design of new EPA regulations that are due to be implemented just a few years from now. Teal’s mission is to reduce harmful emissions from the entire automotive refinish industry and is now formulating the draft rules which will decide how those reductions are to be made. Kim Teal will make a presentation at the Collision Industry Conference (CIC) on Tuesday in Las Vegas.

NACE Selects Chairman 2005 Event
