Alliance Extends Commitment to Charity Cars Campaign

During the Winter Shareholder’s Meeting of Aftermarket Auto Parts Alliance, Inc. (Alliance) in Boca Raton, FL, the members of Auto Value/Bumper to Bumper unanimously agreed to extend their commitment to the Charity Cars Campaign through 2008. The members also set a new donation target of 1,000 vehicles to victims escaping domestic abuse.

Given to only 10 companies from each magazine, the winners are determined by surveys conducted by Babcox Research that ask readers which ads they recall seeing and reading.

Signed Elliott Sadler Helmet Garners Sizable Gift for Charity Cars Campaign

A helmet worn by Elliot Sadler when he took the wheel of the No. 9 Dodge during the Nov. 3, 2007 NASCAR Nationwide (formerly Busch) Series race was auctioned off on Nov. 15 for a winning bid of $1,875. Proceeds will go directly to support Charity Cars Inc. and the 2007 Auto Value/Bumper to Bumper Charity Cars Campaign. The Ebay auction opened Nov. 5. The helmet was personally autographed by Gillett Evernham Motorsports team mates Elliott Sadler, Kasey Kahne and Scott Riggs during the Auto Value/Bumper to Bumper hospitality event at the Texas Motor Speedway after the race.

Last Week at AAPEX: Fred Bunting Receives Art Fisher Award

AWDA presented the 2007 Art Fisher Memorial Scholarship Award to Fred A. Bunting in recognition of his passion for training and education. Bunting received this honor during AWDA’s general session, held last Sunday night in Las Vegas. The Art Fisher Memorial Scholarship Award is presented annually to an aftermarket company or individual that demonstrates outstanding commitment to education and training, either within their own companies or throughout the industry. Given in memory of former AWDA chairman Art Fisher, the award grants substantial scholarships in the name of the award winner to two students enrolled in the automotive aftermarket management program at Northwood University.

Proceeds from the Auction of Scott Riggs’ Helmet go to Charity Cars Campaign

The bidding has closed on a helmet worn by Scott Riggs during an Aug. 21 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race. The eBay auction opened Aug. 22 with fans starting an early bidding war to own a piece of NASCAR history. The helmet, worn by Riggs as he took the wheel of the Auto Value/Bumper to Bumper #10 Dodge, was autographed by the Evernham team member directly after the race.

Two Guys Garage to Participate in Charity Cars Giveaway to Domestic Abuse Victims

Brenton Production’s “Two Guys Garage” program has always shown its viewers how to keep their cars in top shape, but starting this week, Two Guys begins its participation in the Auto Value Bumper to Bumper Charity Cars Campaign, a national campaign which provides reliable second-hand cars to victims of domestic abuse. Over the next eight episodes of the show, host Sam Memmolo will repair and inspect four vehicles to be used in the PDI giveaway this July in Tampa.

The Kasey Kahne Foundation has created an exciting new fundraising event to benefit the 2007 Auto Value/Bumper to Bumper Charity Cars Campaign. The entire group of Auto Value/Bumper to Bumper shareholders, along with hundreds of parts stores and certified service centers, have allied with The Original 1-800-Charity Cars organization in a massive project to seek, secure, and refurbish vehicles to be presented to more than 500 qualified recipients at grand award ceremonies to be held throughout 2007 in various locations across the nation. EDITORIAL: The Death of the Supply Base Is Greatly Exaggerated

With the continued troubles at Ford and General Motors and the periodic announcements of another major supplier going bankrupt (e.g., the recent announcement by Dana), the conventional wisdom is that the North American automotive industry is an almost impossible place to make money and that we are “overdue” for a major industry re-structuring, particularly in the supply base. While there is no question that certain industry players will not survive the current transition, we believe the projections of a radical re-structuring of the industry are overstated and industry participants need to be prepared to deal with continued overcapacity in many industry segments.
