CVSN Joins in the Leadership of Heavy Duty Aftermarket Week

The Commercial Vehicle Solutions Network (CVSN) has announced that the association’s annual spring meetings will now be held in conjunction with Heavy Duty Aftermarket Week (HDAW). The next HDAW will be held Jan. 21-24, 2008, at The Mirage, in Las Vegas. “By including CVSN in the leadership of HDAW, we feel this will be the most significant annual meeting in our industry for years to come,” said Joe Mejaly of ArvinMeritor and HDAW 2008 vice chairman.

China Becomes Second Largest Exporter of Auto Parts to U.S.

China overtook Germany in the first quarter to become the second largest exporter of automotive spare parts to the United States, Shanghai Securities News reported Friday. China exported $1.936 billion worth of auto parts to the U.S. in the first quarter this year, just topping Germany which notched up $1.934 billion U.S. dollars, according to statistics from the U.S. Commerce Department cited by the newspaper. Japan is way out in front with a substantially higher $3.57 billion.

Plan Good for Some Suppliers, Not So Good for Others

Automotive suppliers, already bearing customer production cuts, spent Wednesday calculating what DaimlerChrysler AG’s plan to make fewer vehicles and reduce vehicle platforms would mean to their operations. But Chrysler’s restructuring plan reveals that not all suppliers will be affected the same. In some instances, Chrysler will consolidate operations that may hurt suppliers. Elsewhere, it will invest billions that may benefit suppliers.

Mohammad Samii Named APRA’s Coordinator of Electrical Training

The Automotive Parts Remanufacturers Association (APRA) has announced the appointment of Mohammad Samii as its coordinator of electrical training. Samii is an active rebuilder, instructor and a longtime Global Connection columnist who is renowned in the automotive aftermarket industry for his professionalism and technical knowledge. He has been an instrumental part of APRA’s Electrical Clinics for many years, conducting numerous seminars across the country and Canada for electrical rebuilders and technicians. He has also been involved with electrical training projects at his local community college, conducted various electrical training seminars for many APRA member companies, and has been involved with training venues outside the rebuilding industry such as AV-Tech Expo, Vision Hi-Tech Training and Expo.
