PPG to Restructure Manufacturing and Reduce Staffing

PPG Industries has announced a restructuring plan that is expected to result in approximately $100 million in pretax annual cost savings for the company. The restructuring initiative is part of PPG’s global transformation in conjunction with its acquisition of SigmaKalon, completed Jan. 2.

PPG Automotive Glass, Services Business Renamed Pittsburgh Glass Works

PPG Industries’ automotive glass and services business, which is under contract to be sold to a new company being formed by PPG and Kohlberg & Co., will begin using the name “Pittsburgh Glass Works,” effective Aug. 1. The newly formed business will continue using the name following closure of the transaction with Kohlberg & Co. that is expected in the third quarter of this year.

Belron US Names New CEO to Lead Safelite AutoGlass, Affiliated Operations

Belron US has named a 20-year veteran of its Safelite AutoGlass business, Thomas Feeney, as its new president and chief executive officer. He will lead the nation’s largest vehicle glass replacement and repair company, along with Safelite Solutions, the claims management operation and national network of glass fulfillment services, and Safelite Glass Corp., the manufacturing arm of the company.

Century Fiberglass Names Troy Lagemann as General Manager

ELKHART, IN — Century Fiberglass, a division of the Truck Accessories Group, LLC (TAG), has named Troy Lagemann as general manager (GM). Lagemann had previously been serving as an interim GM. PPG Names Vice President of Automotive OEM Glass

Joseph Stas has been named vice president, automotive original-equipment-manufacturer glass for PPG, effective July 1. Stas has more than 25 years of experience at the Pittsburgh-based supplier of coatings, glass, fiber glass and chemicals. He replaces Barry McGee, who is retiring after more than 34 years of service to PPG.

DuPont Expands Fayetteville Manufacturing Line

DuPont has announced plans to add a $15 million glass interlayer manufacturing line at its site in Fayetteville, N.C. The new line will manufacture DuPont SentryGlas Plus interlayers, high-strength polymer sheets used by glass laminators and window companies to make advanced safety glass for automobiles and buildings.

Dura Automotive Standardizes Manufacturing Operations

Dura Automotive Systems has announced it will standardize its North American manufacturing operations on QAD MFG/PRO eB2 and related applications. QAD Inc. is a provider of enterprise applications for global manufacturers. QAD Global Services will work together with Dura to provide consulting and implementation services. Dura will deploy MFG/PRO eB2 at nine production sites and upgrade 11 other locations in North America. Dura said it expects QAD applications will help streamline manufacturing and enterprise functions shared by multiple locations, enable more efficient financial management and accelerate information transfer along the supply chain.

Belron to Acquire Safelite

Belron S.A., one of the world’s largest vehicle glass repair and replacement companies, has announced plans to acquire Safelite Group Inc., a leading U.S. provider of replacement and repair services as well as automotive glass insurance claims management, retail fulfillment, automotive glass manufacturing and wholesale distribution. The transaction is expected to close in March and the integration of Belron Inc., the U.S. operation of Belron and Safelite operations will begin at that time. Upon closing, the newly combined organization will be called Belron.

PPG Announces Leadership Appointments

The company has announced the appointment of Rebecca Liebert (pictured) as senior vice president, automotive coatings. She also will oversee the Latin America region and will join the company’s operating committee.
