TIA Announces 2006 Hall of Fame Inductees
The Tire Industry Association (TIA) has announced the members of the 2006 Tire Industry Hall of Fame. The new inductees are Jaques Bajer, president of Tire Systems Engineering Inc. and Armando Tornel Murillo, executive president at Empresas Tornel.
Midtronics Files Intellectual Property Lawsuit Against Argus Analyzers
Midtronics has filed a patent infringement suit against Argus Analyzers of Jamestown, RI, in an effort to protect its battery management intellectual property. The suit claims that an Argus product violates a patent exclusively licensed by Midtronics. The suit was filed in U.S. District Court in Chicago.
Timken, Clemson University Announce Endowed Chair for International Center for Automotive Research
The Timken Company and Clemson University have jointly announced that Dr. John Ziegert will hold The Timken Chair in Automotive Design and Development at the Carroll A. Campbell Graduate Engineering Center at the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research (CU-ICAR).
Remy Amicably Resolves Patent Dispute
Remy International says it has “amicably” resolved a dispute with APEKS International, Inc. of Norcross, GA, concerning certain U.S. Patents owned or licensed by Remy, which protect its proprietary automotive alternator and starter motor technology. Under terms of the settlement, APEKS has agreed to purchase all of its new CS-130 and CS-130D type alternators and new PG-260 starters from approved Remy supply channels. APEKS has also made a settlement payment to Remy and has acknowledged the validity and enforceability of the Remy alternator and starter patents.
Modine Creates Product-Focused Group to Support Truck and Off-Highway HVAC Markets
Modine Manufacturing has created a new product-focused group to support the company’s efforts targeting the heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment needs of the truck and off-highway markets. The company also announced a plan to relocate its Harrodsburg, KY-based research and development facility into its technology center in Racine, WI. The new group’s R&D activities, along with systems and applications engineering, will be located in Racine. HVAC production will remain in Harrodsburg.
Freudenberg-NOK Names Lorenzo Chief Technology Officer
Dr. Luis Lorenzo has been named chief technology officer for Freudenberg-NOK. In this role, Lorenzo will be responsible for research and development activities for Freudenberg-NOK, as well as the oversight of the technical organization in the operating divisions. In addition, he will be responsible for developing an advanced manufacturing organization. He will be located at the company’s Plymouth, MI, facility.

Former Delphi Exec Named Federal-Mogul VP of Sales and Marketing
William “Steve” Bowers has been appointed senior vice president, sales and marketing for Federal-Mogul. He was also named a member of the strategy board and an officer for the company. Bowers comes to Federal-Mogul from Delphi, where he most recently served as executive director of sales, marketing and planning for the energy & chassis division.
