WOODBRIDGE, Ontario — Litens Automotive, a producer of automotive belt tensioning products for the aftermarket and OE market, announced this week that a motion it filed for a patent infringement judgment against Newsun/Sunshine-AIS has been upheld by the Nevada court. The action against Newsun/Sunshine-AIS is the result of a patent infringement on automatic belt tensioners produced in China.
The company said Newsun/Sunshine-AIS has displayed and attempted to market automatic belt tensioners at various global automotive trade-shows the most recent being the 2005 AAPEX/SEMA show in Las Vegas. The action comes after numerous attempts by Litens to inform Newsun/Sunshine-AIS of existing patents and restrictions on their proprietary technology, and resulting legal action.
According to Litens, the use of automatic belt tensioners that do not meet original design parameters can result in catastrophic engine failure and are a consumer safety concern.
Officials from Litens said the company will protect its global intellectual property to the full extent of the law at all manufacturing and distribution levels.
