Vic Edelbrock, Jr. to Receive Robert E. Petersen Lifetime Achievement Award

Hotrod & Restoration (HHR) magazine and Robert Petersen have announced Vic Edelbrock, Jr. as the fourth recipient of the Robert E. Petersen Lifetime Achievement Award. Launched in 2002 at the HRR show, the inaugural Robert E. Petersen Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to NHRA founder Wally Parks. The award was presented to Carroll Shelby in 2003 and George Barris in 2004. Petersen selects the annual recipient based upon the candidate’s contributions to the evolution and prosperity of specialized automobiles. The trophy, a bronze sculpture by automotive artist Steve Posson, aptly titled “Running at the Lakes,” is on display at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles.

AIA Honors Industry Award Winners

The Auto International Association (AIA) presented its 2004 Industry Awards in Las Vegas last Tuesday during AAPEX. Mike Brown, president of Olympus Imported Auto Parts Corp., and vice-chairman of AIA, announced the winners and made the award presentations. Now in its 16th year, the awards program recognizes manufacturers and marketers for excellence in developing high-quality products and innovative marketing programs for import cars or trucks – ranging from products that enhance performance, appearance or convenience, to the cataloging, merchandising and advertising that create awareness and fuel demand.

Rod Enlow Joins CCAR as Director of Industry Relations

Rod Enlow has joined the Coordinating Committee For Automotive Repair (CCAR) to assist in improving environmental and safety compliance in the automotive repair industry. Enlow’s appointment as director of industry relations was announced by Robert Stewart, CCAR President.

NHRA Tour de Force Storms Detroit

Legendary hot-rodder and storyteller John Force wants a major drag racing strip in the Detroit area, and he’s willing to invest time and money to make it happen. Force, the king of funny cars and one-liners, was in town last week for the Society of Automotive Engineers World Congress at Cobo Center, in Detroit. His job: to chat with engineers and shake hands with backers, including Ford Motor Co. executives, who support his passion to go fast over a quarter-mile.
