The Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA), announced several job responsibility changes within its management team. The announcement was made today by Bob McKenna, MEMA president and CEO.

RMA Hires State Lobbyist

The Rubber Manufacturers Association announced this week that Chris Gullott has joined the organization as director, state government affairs. Gullott previously worked for the Personal Watercraft Industry Association (PWIA) as manager, external and state affairs. In that role, Gullott formulated advocacy efforts on behalf of PWIA members and also served as a media spokesperson.

AAIA and CAWA to Consolidate Legislative Presence in California; New Office Opens July 1

The Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association (AAIA) and the California and Nevada Automotive Wholesalers’ Association (CAWA) will open a new jointly operated government affairs office in Sacramento, Calif., on July 1. CAWA and AAIA have hired Jennifer Zins and Norm Plotkin to represent the industry in Sacramento.

Day two of the MEMA Legislative Summit began with an unexpected twist – a fire in the Rayburn Congressional building – where MEMA intended to start its day of lobbying. However, in true aftermarket fashion, MEMA members didn’t miss a beat. The attendees split up into 12 groups to meet in closed door sessions with representatives from the House and Senate.

CAWA Plans 50th Anniversary Celebrations

The California/Nevada Automotive Wholesalers Association (CAWA) is celebrating its 50 year anniversary. Established in 1955 by 26 jobbers throughout California, CAWA continues today as one of the nation’s premiere regional automotive parts trade associations. CAWA has planned celebratory activities that will occur throughout the year in California and Nevada culminating with the annual CAWA meeting during Automotive Aftermarket Industry Week in Las Vegas.

Continental Advances Case for Active Safety Technology at Washington Auto Show

Continental this week continued its vocal advocacy of active safety technology with a presentation at the Washington Auto Show, showcasing the company’s roadmap for total safety integrating active and passive safety equipment. At the press conference, Continental announced two leading automakers have commissioned the company to undertake advanced design work on integrating various elements of its safety solution, the Active Passive Integration Approach concept. Joe Gaus, vice president, Continental Automotive Systems, talked about how electronics are leading the way to safer cars by allowing ongoing development of active safety systems that help drivers avoid crashes and mitigate injuries.
