Former Intermet Corp. Chairman John Doddridge has announced his resignation from the company’s board of directors, effective August 1, in order to devote more time to other business and personal interests. Doddridge stepped down as CEO of Intermet in July of 2003 and retired as chairman in July of this year. The company announced on July 15, 2004, CEO Gary Ruff had been elected to the additional post of chairman.

Hayes Lemmerz To Close Michigan Plant

Hayes Lemmerz International said it will permanently close its Howell, Mich., manufacturing facility as part of a manufacturing rationalization plan for its North American Wheel Group. The closure is intended to reduce operating costs and increase facility utilization, the company said.

Snap-on Appoints Former BorgWarner CEO and Chairman to Board

John Fiedler, retired chairman and CEO of BorgWarner, has been appointed to Snap-on’s board of directors. Fiedler served as BorgWarner’s chairman and CEO until 2003. Prior to 1995, he was president and COO. During his tenure, BorgWarner increased its revenues from $800 million to roughly $3 billion.

Siemens VDO Automotive to Establish Diesel Systems Group; Focus on R&D, Testing

Siemens VDO Automotive has announced plans to establish a new division with headquarters in Columbia, Richland County, S.C. The new division — Powertrain Diesel Systems North America — will become a national center for research and development, engineering and testing of diesel fuel technology, including piezo electronic fuel injectors, diesel pumps and fuel rails, said the company. The company will invest $25 million in the new facility, which will employ 120 people, 70 of whom will be new hires from the region.

Siemens VDO Automotive Expands Detroit-Area Testing Facility

Siemens VDO Automotive is investing $2 million to transform its former machining and tooling shop in Auburn Hills, Mich., into a 5,000-square-foot fuel validation test center for its Powertrain Fuel Supply Systems (FS) division. The project is expected to be complete in May 2004. The new fuel validation laboratory will bring product testing and validation closer to local development engineers and Detroit-based customers, said the company.
