AAIA Announces Dates for 2009 Aftermarket Legislative Summit
"Empowering Our Industry" is the theme for the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association’s (AAIA) 2009 Aftermarket Legislative Summit, which will take place March 11-12 in Washington, D.C. The Legislative Summit, headquartered at the Grand Hyatt, will provide an opportunity for aftermarket professionals to come to Capitol Hill to meet with key congressional leaders and discuss issues that affect and impact their businesses.
MEMA Members Tell Legislators: “Now is the Time”
The theme “Now is the Time,” has never seemed more appropriate as members of the Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA) gathered on Capitol Hill this week to talk to legislators about the critical issues currently challenging the motor vehicle supplier industry. Rather than simply bringing a laundry list of complaints to legislators this week, motor vehicle suppliers that attended MEMA’s annual Legislative Summit focused on ways that the industry can be part of the solution rather than part of the problem.
Turning an ‘Invisible Giant’ Into a Giant Leader in Washington
In its 2007 report, "Motor Vehicle Suppliers: The Foundation of U.S. Manufacturing," the Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA) dubbed the automotive aftermarket supplier industry an “invisible giant" for its quiet, behind-the-scenes impact on the U.S. economy. And when you consider that MEMA’s study shows that the automotive supplier industry, virtually unknown to the average consumer, contributes 4.5 million private industry jobs and $253 billion in annual compensation to the nation’s economy, invisible giant seems like an apt moniker. AWDA Board Lobbies for Right to Repair Bill on Capitol Hill
The Automotive Warehouse Distributors Association (AWDA) Board of Governors met with key lawmakers on Capitol Hill last week as part of their summer meetings in Washington, D.C. In more than 25 Congressional meetings with lawmakers from eight states, the association’s governors served as grassroots lobbyists representing the interests of their businesses and the aftermarket industry.

Day two of the MEMA Legislative Summit began with an unexpected twist – a fire in the Rayburn Congressional building – where MEMA intended to start its day of lobbying. However, in true aftermarket fashion, MEMA members didn’t miss a beat. The attendees split up into 12 groups to meet in closed door sessions with representatives from the House and Senate.
