Eaton Reports Second Quarter, Automotive Profits Up 3 Percent From Previous Year

Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation announced net income per share of $1.37 for the second quarter of 2005, an increase of 33 percent over net income per share of $1.03 in the second quarter of 2004. Sales in the quarter were a record $2.83 billion, 18 percent above the same period in 2004. Net income was $209 million compared to $161 million in 2004, an increase of 30 percent.

Dana to Unveil Intelligent Cooling Pump Range at Engine Expo 2005

Dana Corp. plans to introduce a family of “advanced Intelligent Cooling pumps” at Engine Expo 2005, being held May 31 through June 2 in Stuttgart, Germany. David Black, a chief engineer at Dana, will present a paper on the development of the pump at Engine Expo 2005 on May 31. The presentation will describe the key technical steps in the development of Dana’s new electric coolant pump product range, ensuring compliance with current and future automotive applications.

Aftermarket Associations Urge CARB to Drop 15/150 Warranty Regs

Eight aftermarket associations filed a petition this week with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) calling on the agency to rescind its regulations requiring that car companies warrant partial zero emission vehicles for 15 years/150,000 miles. The petition asserts that CARB has failed to present any evidence that a 15/150 warranty would reduce emissions, increase durability or improve maintenance of vehicle emissions systems.

SKF Seals Deal with Dana for Heavy Duty Hubcaps

SKF has been awarded a contract to provide a lightweight hubcap solution for Dana Spicer Low Maintenance System wheel-end for heavy-duty axle wheel-end applications. The hubcap system was developed in conjunction with Dana’s Commercial Vehicle Systems group and will be available for use on Dana Spicer steer axles and trailer axles for several major North American truck and trailer manufacturers.

Canadian Automakers Hail Agreement to Reduce Greenhouse Gases

A landmark agreement to reduce greenhouse gas emissions was formally signed Tuesday by the Canadian government and the country’s automobile industry. The signing of the memorandum agreement, previously announced as a follow-up to the Kyoto protocol on climate change, took place at Auto 21, an auto engineering facility at the University of Windsor. The pact is intended to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from Canada’s vehicle fleet by 5.3 megatonnes by the end of 2010.

A new study released today by the Association of International Automobile Manufacturers (AIAM) finds that new American automakers have invested nearly $27 billion in new factories and created more than 55,000 new, high-paying jobs over the past two decades.

Remy to Sponsor Paul Dana in the Ethanol Hemelgarn Indy Racing League Entry

Remy International has signed a three-year associate sponsorship agreement with driver Paul Dana for the #91 Ethanol Hemelgarn Racing entry in the Indy Racing League IndyCar Series, starting with the 2005 season. Dana will pilot the Toyota-powered Dallara for the 17-race season. Ron Hemelgarn, a founding team owner in the Indy Racing League, will operate the team in an encore return to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

ASA Missouri/Kansas to Host 13th Annual VISION Hi-Tech Training Conference

The Automotive Service Association of Missouri/Kansas will host the 13th Annual VISION Hi-Tech Training & Expo March 4-6 at the Overland Park Convention Center in Kansas City, Mo. The association is setting attendance records this year, with attendee registrations from 26 states this year, up from 20 states last year. More than 920 automotive service professionals attended training during the 2004 event. Show managers are expecting 4,000 automotive service professionals to attend the 2005 event.
