Visteon In-dash Entertainment/GPS System Now Available

The Visteon Navigation Radio System is now available for North American passenger vehicles. Available through automotive dealerships and mobile electronics retailers, the system expands on the functionality and convenience of original equipment (OE) radio head units. Featuring a 7-inch color digital LCD touch-screen monitor, the new system combines dozens of advanced capabilities within a single unit that fits in most vehicles with a double-DIN radio opening. The system is compatible with existing steering wheel controls on most vehicles, plus rear (backup) cameras and satellite radio modules.

Someday, cars will see beyond the road that lies within the headlight beams. They’ll have cameras that detect what is happening all around it. And eventually they’ll talk to each other. Those are the predictions of nine auto executives in charge of safety at automakers and suppliers during a conference held Monday by the Society of Automotive Engineers. The annual conference, which ends Thursday and is expected to attract more than 35,000 people to Cobo Center in Detroit, features ways automakers and suppliers can improve vehicles’ safety, comfort and performance.
