New Release of PIES With CARQUEST and HDx Extensions Announced

An important new release was recently distributed for the Product Information Exchange Standard (PIES) that includes industry requested extensions and an “express” format for product data exchange, according to AAIA. PIES 4.2 includes extensions of the standard specifically requested by the Heavy Duty eXchange (HDx) and CARQUEST to meet the data exchange requirements of these industry groups. By working closely with aftermarket groups and responding to their needs, AAIA helps ensure that the PIES specification remains an industry standard.

Live from AAPEX: ArvinMeritor Receives AAIA Certification of Information Exchange for Gabriel, Private-Label Ride Control Product Lines

This week at AAPEX ArvinMeritor announced that it received certification of its Gabriel and private-label ride-control products to all four groups of the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association’s (AAIA) Product Information Exchange Standards (PIES) Data Audit Certification (DAC) program. The certification means ArvinMeritor’s Gabriel and private-label products meet the industry’s standards for the exchange of extended product information for the aftermarket and heavy-duty segments of the automotive industry.

Web-Based Direct-Connect Application Announced By MEMA

The Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA) has announced a new initiative to connect warehouse distributors (WDs), program groups and retailers with suppliers, enabling them to conduct e-business and exchange data on a real-time basis. The new Web-based Direct-Connect application, developed by MEMA’s Management Information Systems Group, Inc. (MISG), is based on the aftermarket industry’s non-proprietary Internet Parts Ordering (IPO) standards and will be ready for production in 2005.

AIAG Names Plawecki Acting Executive Director

The Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) announced yesterday that Linda Plawecki has been named acting executive director for the association. Plawecki is replacing Andrew Cummins, who has left AIAG to pursue other opportunities. One of three loaned executives from the Detroit Big Three automakers to AIAG, Plawecki, an executive with Ford Motor Co., previously held the position of AIAG executive director from 2002 until 2003. AIAG’s board of directors has initiated a comprehensive search for a permanent replacement to head up the association.

Buyer Registrations Up 8 Percent Year-to-Date for AAPEX 2004

The 2003 Automotive Aftermarket Industry Week was a record-breaker, with more than 50,000 buyers attending the Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo (AAPEX) and SEMA Show. Now, according to registration figures for July, more buyers will be on hand this year to visit the 1,900-some exhibitors at AAPEX. AAPEX 2004 is scheduled to take place Nov. 2-5 at the Sands Expo Center in Las Vegas.

Online registration has opened for the International BIG R Show, which takes place Oct. 29-Nov. 1 at the Riviera Hotel in Las Vegas. Heavy Duty Dialogue 2006 is timed to give heavy duty suppliers the opportunity to discuss important industry topics, such as regulations from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) scheduled to go into effect in 2007.
