TROY, MI — The board of directors of Intermet Corp., has unanimously elected President and CEO Gary Ruff to chairman and CEO, effective immediately.
Ruff succeeds John Doddridge who joined Intermet as chairman and CEO in 1994. Doddridge stepped down as CEO in July 2003 and is retiring from his post as chairman of the board this month. He will continue to serve on the board.
Ruff has been president of Intermet since December 2002 and was named CEO a year ago. He joined the company in 1999 as vice president of technical services. Ruff joined Intermet from Hayes Lemmerz International, where he was president of North American Wheels and corporate vice president. He began his automotive and casting career in 1969 with the Chevrolet Division of General Motors.
Additionally, Mitsunobu (Tony) Takeuchi has been elected to the company’s board of directors. Takeuchi fills a board vacancy created by the departure of Richard Peters, who is stepping down due to an increasingly demanding schedule.
Takeuchi is Chairman Emeritus of DENSO International America, Inc., the North-American headquarters for Japan-based DENSO Corp., and honorary advisor to the board of directors, DENSO Corp. Previously, he was chair and CEO of the Southfield, Mich.-based global supplier of advanced automotive systems and components.
Takeuchi’s 40-year career with DENSO included serving as president and CEO of DENSO International America, overseeing operations in Canada, U.S. and Mexico. Prior to this he was general manager of International Sales and Marketing for North America, South America, Europe and Asia/Oceania. He was elected to DENSO Corporation’s board of directors in 1995. He began his career in 1964 with the firm’s parent company, DENSO Corporation (formerly Nippondenso Company Ltd.)
Tony Takeuchi is a member and past president of the Japan Business Society of Detroit and serves on boards of the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), Original Equipment Suppliers Association (OESA), Motor Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA) and the Economic Club of Detroit.
