Congressional Support for Right to Repair Act Growing
Momentum is building on Capitol Hill for the Motor Vehicle Owners’ Right to Repair Act. A total of 80 Congressman have signed on as sponsors to HR 2735, according to AAIA. Among the growing number of sponsors lining up behind sponsors Reps. Joe Barton (R-Texas), and Edolphus Towns (D-NY), are 13 members of The House Committee on Energy and Commerce. Consideration by this committee will be a critical first stop toward obtaining enactment.
Monro Muffler Brake to Acquire Mr. Tire Locations from Mile One Automotive
Monro Muffler Brake has signed a definitive agreement with privately held Mile One Automotive to acquire 36 Mr. Tire locations in Maryland and Virginia. The company has no plans to close any of the Mr. Tire locations, and the stores will continue to operate under the current brand name. Monro also said it intends to retain substantially all Mr. Tire store employees.

ProQuest Automotive and Hino Motors Sign First Electronic Parts Catalog Agreement
ProQuest Automotive announced that it has signed a five-year agreement with Hino Motors Ltd., Tokyo, Japan, to develop an electronic parts catalog (EPC) application for use in all of the North American dealerships of Hino Motors Sales U.S.A., Inc.
Aftermarket Veteran George Halford Dies
George Halford, co-owner and vice president of H.B. International Marketing Services, died this week. A Royal Air Force veteran who served in World War II, Halford emigrated to Canada in 1957 and entered the automotive business. In 1966, he purchased BMC dealership for Triumph, MG and Jaguar, and in 1976, opened three jobber stores. Halford formed Tandem Marketing Co., an automotive parts sales agency, in 1980, and in 1987 merged with Bearden Marketing Services to form H.B. International Marketing Services, Inc.
GM Giving Away 1,000 Vehicles
General Motors has introduced a new “Hot Button” marketing program, the latest in a line of marketing initiatives aimed at reaching consumers more effectively. As part of the program, GM will hold the largest vehicle giveaway in history in a two-month period. Beginning on Jan. 5, GM is giving away 1,000 2004 vehicles. Consumers will have an opportunity to win one of 54 different GM vehicles including HUMMER H2, Cadillac CTS, Pontiac GTO, Saturn VUE, Chevy SSR, Buick Rainier, Saab 9-3 and GMC Envoy, simply by visiting a participating dealership and pushing the OnStar “Hot Button” in a specially designated vehicle.
