General Motors to Sell Transmission Unit for $5.6 Billion
General Motors will sell its Allison Transmission unit to investment firms Carlyle Group and Onex Corp for $5.6 billion, the world’s largest automaker said Thursday. The sale will help GM raise funds to pay for thousands of job cuts and plant closings after the firm’s $12.4-billion in losses over the past two years, Bloomberg financial news service reported.

Gary Phillips Named APRA Treasurer
Gary Phillips was installed as the new treasurer of the Automotive Parts Remanufacturers Association (APRA) during the association’s recent “International BIG R Show” held in Oct. 27-29 Las Vegas. Phillips has been working with Allison Transmissions since he was 19 years old. He served in a variety of roles, including technician, service manager and dealer development manager for a Detroit Diesel Allison distributor.
