Dayco Products’ Dennis Welvaert Named New AASA Chairman; New Board Members Elected

Dennis Welvaert, president, North American aftermarket division, Dayco Products LLC., Tulsa, OK, took office as chairman of the Automotive Aftermarket Suppliers Association (AASA) Board of Governors at the board’s Nov. 8 board meeting in Chicago. Welvaert is a 37-year veteran in the automotive industry. His career started with Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. where he held various technical positions in research and development before moving into the OEM Sales division.

Last Week at AAPEX: Burkhart Awarded ‘Pursuit of Excellence’

At last Sunday night’s AWDA general session, Jon Owens from Babcox Publications presented the 2007 Pursuit of Excellence Award to Jay Burkhart, senior vice president, Global Aftermarket for Federal-Mogul Corp., based in Southfield, MI. Northwood University will honor seven automotive aftermarket leaders with its annual Automotive Aftermarket Education Award on Tuesday, Oct. 30 at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas. The awards will be presented during a luncheon at the annual Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo Show (AAPEX). Northwood’s Automotive Aftermarket Education Award recognizes leaders for their contributions to the educational process in the automotive aftermarket field. The award was created to insure that these individuals receive national recognition for their efforts to improve education inside and outside the industry.

John “Max” McGowan Celebrates 35 Years in the Aftermarket

Monroe Partners with Canadian Shops to Sell ‘4 More’ Per Week

Monroe has announced a new business-building initiative designed to help Canadian service dealers develop strong customer relationships and increased profitability by selling ‘4 More’ shocks or struts per week. The brainchild of Tenneco’s Canadian sales team, the “4 More” program has generated hundreds of technical and sales training sessions with service dealer customers across Canada.

National Pronto Association Presents Vendor Awards at Fall Meeting

National Pronto Association announced that its Fall Membership Meeting held Sept. 25-27 in Nashville, TN, was a success. More than 300 people, including 61 warehouse owners and 116 vendors were in attendance. Ray Renehan from Stone Wheel, Inc. was named the 2007 Executive of the Year, in recognition of his voluntary contributions to the National Pronto Association.

Monroe Extends ‘Slick Offer’ Promotion

Monroe Brakes has extended its “Slick Offer” promotion through Dec. 31. The program rewards consumers with a mail-in rebate for the price of an oil change when they purchase a qualifying set of Monroe brake pads. “We started this program in June, and experienced an unparalleled level of support and success,” said Sheryl Bomia, North American Aftermarket programs manager for Tenneco. “The ‘Slick Offer’ drove repeat business to our service dealers’ oil change bays while giving consumers an extra incentive to have their brakes replaced or serviced, and it will continue to do that through the busy fall and winter service seasons.”
