DuPont May Trim 200 Jobs in Consolidation Moves

DuPont Automotive Systems, the Troy, MI-based supplier of paint for new vehicles, said Wednesday it might eliminate 200 jobs in a consolidation of two facilities to save money. Paint laboratories in Troy and Mt. Clemens, MI, will be consolidated into a larger plant and research facility in Mt. Clemens. Rising raw materials costs and a need to be closer to the company’s main Mt. Clemens manufacturing plant, the largest automotive paint facility in the world, led Stephen Cox, DuPont’s vice president of Americas and automotive systems, to consolidate the facilities.

DuPont and Hendrick Motorsports Extend NASCAR Sponsorship

DuPont and Hendrick Motorsports have announced the extension of DuPont’s longstanding sponsorship of the #24 Chevrolet Monte Carlo in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series. The new pact builds on an association launched 13 years ago with 21-year-old rookie driver named Jeff Gordon. Under the new contract, DuPont continues as the primary sponsor for three years, through the 2008 racing season, with the option to extend for an additional two years.
