BROADVIEW, Ill. Purolator has just introduced a new filter media into its line of oil filters, incorporating microfiber technology to enhance the effectiveness of the filtering media. This innovation also allows for greater coverage with fewer SKUs and better performance, according to Purolator.
The filters will be marketed first to auto repair shops through WDs and jobbers under the Group 7 by Purolator brand name.
The re-engineered filter media allows for more compact oil filter housings to be used on existing vehicles, yet at the same time affording increased levels of efficiency and capacity, the two primary measures of an oil filter’s performance, the company said.
In addition, Purolator engineers have been able to consolidate the applications covered by four existing part numbers so they can actually replace seven larger filters.
The company added that while the smaller size of these Group 7 by Purolator oil filters brings benefits to installers, the new filters also bring particular value to WDs, jobbers and other distributors.
“Specifically, distributors will be pleased to learn that these filters allow them to cover more applications with fewer SKUs,” said Frank Merrell, senior product manager for Purolator. “This means they can achieve the same coverage with less shelf space since these filters are significantly smaller than the filters they replace. Furthermore, they will also be offering their repair shop customers enhanced value and performance. With the added coverage being available through the consolidation, this innovative new line increases the likelihood that the distributor will indeed have in stock a filter for a given application.”
