Michelin North America, Inc. and Toyota donate $20,000 to South Carolina Educational Foundation

Michelin North America, Inc. and Toyota donated $20,000 to the Lexington, S.C., School District One Educational Foundation during a recent ceremony at the Michelin plant.

LEXINGTON, S.C. — Michelin North America, Inc. and Toyota donated $20,000 to the Lexington, S.C., School District One Educational Foundation during a recent ceremony at the Michelin plant.

“Michelin and Toyota, through their generous contributions, exhibit a genuine interest in guaranteeing a quality education for the students in Lexington County School District One,” stated James A. Compton, chairman of the Lexington County School District One Educational Foundation. “We are fortunate to have the opportunity to partner with Michelin and Toyota, and are excited about the possibilities this partnership brings. The money donated will enable Lexington District One Educational Foundation to sponsor a Virtual High School that Lexington County School District One will offer its students, and provide teacher grants to support innovative ideas in teaching.”

The gift is the result of Toyota’s Community Connection program, a philanthropy program aimed at supporting non-profit organizations in the cities where the automotive manufacturer and its suppliers do business. The program, which is in its sixth year, has donated over $800,000 at 46 events in 20 states.

“Toyota believes in contributing to the communities where our manufacturing plants and other facilities are located. Through Community Connection, we extend that support to our supplier communities,” said Charles Ing, director of government affairs, Toyota Motor North America, Inc.

“At Michelin, we are committed to supporting our community,” said Raul Fernandez, plant manager of Michelin’s passenger-tire facility in Lexington. “The Michelin Lexington plant is honored that our customer, Toyota, is matching our $10,000 contribution. This contribution will benefit a greater number of teachers and students throughout our community. We are proud that our companies are working together to make a difference in the education of our children.”
