RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC — Margaret Beck has been promoted to director of communications for the Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA). She formerly served as the association’s manager of communications.
“Margaret has been instrumental in helping the association improve the look and content of its communications and has done a fabulous job working with the industry’s trade magazines to communicate the automotive suppliers’ positions on key issues,” said Neal Zipser, vice president of marketing and communications of MEMA.
In her new position, Beck will be responsible for production of member communications for MEMA and its market segment associations: the Automotive Aftermarket Suppliers Association (AASA), the Heavy Duty Manufacturers Association (HDMA) and the Original Equipment Suppliers Association (OESA). She also is responsible for member communications for MEMA’s peer and products groups and its Management Services Group.
Beck is responsible for the production of MEMA’s electronic newsletters, which include MEMA Industry News, the daily e-news briefs, and ToplineNews, the weekly e-newsletter of industry information and association news. Her duties include working with the association’s IT team to maintain and update the Web sites of the association and its groups.
She also works with Zipser on developing and implementing the association’s marketing and communications program. Beck assists with communications for the Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo (AAPEX), the annual trade show representing the $250 billion North American retail and service aftermarket sponsored by MEMA and the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association (AAIA).
She will continue as editor of FOCUS MEMA’s quarterly magazine, which examines the critical issues and challenges facing today’s OE, aftermarket and heavy duty suppliers.
Beck joined MEMA in 1998 as the association’s staff writer and was promoted to her previous position of communications manager in 2000. Prior to joining MEMA, she was the director of communications for the Independent Garage Owners of North Carolina, an automotive service provider association. Her experience also includes association communications for the North Carolina Forum for Research and Economic Education and the North Carolina Bankers Association. She began her career as a reporter, working at The Times-News, Burlington, N.C., and The Telegram, Rocky Mount, N.C.
